Spring and Summer Weather Alert Service

Tailored for those who want early warnings and real-time rapid updates for any significant weather system moving into their specific county during the Spring and Summer months, from April 1st through September 30th, 2021. For a discounted rate of $29.99, the Spring and Summer Weather Alert option provides advanced notice of:

  • Thunderstorms – Up to 2 days notice of strong/severe thunderstorm potential
  • Real-time thunderstorm alerts – when an individual storm approaches your county specifically, we provide specific details about that storm (see below)
  • Heavy Rain – Up to 2 days’ notice of rain totaling over .50” within a 12 hour period
  • Wind – 1 day notice for wind gusts 40mph or greater
  • Tropical Systems – Up to 5 days notice of any impact on your county

Real-time alerts portion:

Best value!  Real-time alerts are sent when ANY storm of ANY strength is headed your way this Spring and Summer. This means that any storm headed your way that is producing lightning at a minimum, a text alert will be sent directly to you from our meteorologists from Weather NJ and EPAWA, not an app or computer. An example of a real-time alert is below:

Philadelphia: A strong t-storm will affect the county SW-NE 2:45-3:30pm. Moderate lightning observed. Rain: 0.50-0.75″ likely. Wind gusts to 50mph and hail up to 1/2″ possible.

A real-time alert will include pertinent information about the storm headed your way, not just strong or severe storms, but ANY storm that is producing lightning at a minimum. Included in the alert, where applicable, the text alert will include the following information about the storm:

  • Storm direction/heading
  • Start/end times of storm
  • Total rain for that storm
  • Lightning frequency
  • Peak wind gusts expected
  • Hail and hail size
  • Tornadoes and intensity

Great for everyone who spends time outdoors this Spring and Summer for play or work!

*Weather alerts are only sent to your phone between the hours of 9am and 9pm for real-time storm alerts. We will never bother you or send text past 9pm unless it is an emergency situation, and a tornado is imminent

All that you need:  A cell phone that is capable of receiving text messages. This service is not for landline phones/email.

Problem A: Tim and his family are hosting an outdoor pool party and picnic at their home. There are about 20 people present for this outdoor party. Tim’s kids are in the pool with other children, and Tim is cooking on the grill. Tim notices dark ominous clouds building on the horizon, but has no idea what to expect, and his radar app only shows rain intensity and nothing else.

Solution A: EPAWA real-time text alerts will describe in detail what to expect from a specific storm headed his way, and allow him to get his family and friends to safety under cover until the storm passes. It also gives him plenty of time to secure loose objects, and shut down the grille. We do the work with real meteorologists on staff in real-time to eliminate the guessing.

Problem B: Tom, a landscaping company owner, has a crew on standby, but he doesn’t want to bring them in and waste $$$ and resources if rain is in the forecast that will cancel landscaping activities. His phone app says “a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms today” which isn’t much help. He wants to make a decision, but doesn’t want to waste labor money unnecessarily.

Solution B: EPAWA alerts for rain and thunderstorms in advance will send specific start and end times, including duration of rain/storms in a window. This will highlight the best chance times to see precipitation from a meteorologist, not a computer-based app. This way, Tom can schedule his crew accordingly and save time and resources in an inexpensive way.

Problem C: Maria is a mother with two young children. One of them has soccer practice today outdoors, but the forecast calls for thunderstorms. She has no time to plan ahead and check forecast details, and her app just says “50% chance of thunderstorms today” which is no help. She is in an open soccer field with poor data signal, but notices dark ominous clouds on the horizon.

Solution C: With EPAWA real-time alerts, she will be notified via text message of an incoming storm, what to expect specifically from that storm, including lightning intensity, hail, wind, rain, tornadoes, start/end times, and duration, so that she, her children, and others can take cover. Since lightning is the most pertinent, she receives this alert with at least 30 minutes notice.
